Children’s privacy notice

This notice is for parents and guardians. It explains how StudyWiz handles personal information from children under 13, as required by the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We apply the same protections to every StudyWiz learner, whatever their age.

How consent works

A child cannot create a StudyWiz account. A parent creates the account, verifies their email address, confirms they are an adult and the child’s parent or guardian, and gives consent before any child profile can be added or used. The parent can withdraw consent at any time by deleting the child’s profile or the account.

What we collect from children

• The homework questions, writing and practice answers they choose to submit.
• Homework photos, which are read once to understand the problem and not stored by us.
• Progress information: XP, levels, streaks, badges and practice scores.

Children are reminded not to share personal details, and the tutor is instructed never to ask for them. There is no chat between users, no public profile and no way for a child to contact anyone through StudyWiz.

Like any website, our servers receive the IP address and browser type of the device with each request. We use them only for internal operations: keeping StudyWiz secure, preventing abuse and counting visits. Visits are kept as daily totals only, without IP addresses or any account details, and nothing is used for advertising or to build a profile of a child. Our hosting provider’s security logs, which include IP addresses, are deleted after 30 days.

How we use it

Only to provide the learning service, to show progress and safety flags to the parent, and to keep the service secure. A child’s information is never used for advertising and is never sold.

Disclosure

Children’s information is shared only with the service providers that are needed to run StudyWiz: Google Cloud and Firebase (hosting and database) and the Google Gemini API (generating tutoring responses, which does not train on this content under its paid terms). We do not disclose children’s information to any other third party. If we ever wanted to, we would first ask for your separate consent.

Retention

Children’s questions, submissions and activity are deleted automatically after 90 days. Profile and progress data are kept until you delete the profile or the account. Deleted data is removed from backups within 30 days.

Your rights as a parent

• Review your child’s information in the parent area, or download all of it.
• Have your child’s information deleted at any time.
• Refuse further collection by pausing or deleting the profile.

Safety

StudyWiz only helps with schoolwork. If a child writes something suggesting they may be upset or unsafe, the tutor encourages them to talk to a trusted adult and shares the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, and the parent sees a flag in the dashboard. We do not store the content of flagged messages.
