Solve each inequality.
Grade 7 math. Each answer has a few worked steps, to help check the method as well as the answer.
1. x > 10
Subtract 14: −3x < −30Divide by −3 and flip the sign: x > 10
2. y ≤ −4
Subtract 2: −2y ≥ 8Divide by −2 and flip the sign: y ≤ −4
3. y ≤ −7
Add 3: −4y ≥ 28Divide by −4 and flip the sign: y ≤ −7
4. n ≥ −6
Add 11: 3n ≥ −18Divide by 3: n ≥ −6
5. x ≤ 7
Subtract 12: −7x ≥ −49Divide by −7 and flip the sign: x ≤ 7
6. x ≥ −7
Add 2: 6x ≥ −42Divide by 6: x ≥ −7
7. n > −3
Add 4: −5n < 15Divide by −5 and flip the sign: n > −3
8. x > 6
Add 1: −5x < −30Divide by −5 and flip the sign: x > 6
9. y > 2
Subtract 9: 5y > 10Divide by 5: y > 2
10. y > −7
Subtract 2: −8y < 56Divide by −8 and flip the sign: y > −7

Solve a two-step inequality like an equation: undo addition or subtraction, then multiplication or division. The one new rule: when you multiply or divide both sides by a negative number, flip the inequality sign. The answer, like x > 5, describes every number that works.
Answer: n < −7
Answer: n < −8
Answer: n ≤ −8
On StudyWiz, your kid can practice two-step inequalities with 5-question quizzes that are checked as they go, with an explanation for every answer. When a homework problem is the trouble, Wiz gives a hint for each step instead of the answer.
